I've been wanting to do a video demo for so long; I finally bit the bullet and decided to post this one, despite it not being "perfect". I love this little painting, which happens to have one of my favorite color combos - red and turquoise!

And for you "daily painter" followers out there, I'm sure you'll notice a Carol Marine influence in my painting approach. That's because she's been a huge source of inspiration for me over the years, and I've studied her work extensively.

After a mini-hiatus from doing my daily paintings, it's time to get back into the saddle! The good news is that I have been painting; just trying to get a few larger pieces done for some shows I have this summer. Here's one I did to help loosen me up.

After having worked on some recent Landscape paintings, I was itching to get back into Still Lifes. Luckily, I always have fruits or vegetables on hand, since I'm kind of a health nut!

I really love painting pears; they're so curvy and sensual, and come in so many colors. Instead of the usual green Anjou, I thought I'd go with these gorgeous golden Bosc pears. They not only taste delicious, but their longer shape and curly stems were just perfect for this painting!

I love how the stems are intertwined... they look comfortable and in love! :)

This is what I love the most about Still Life painting - the chance for me to tell a little story. In this case, I'm adding my own social commentary using Lemons and Limes, but the viewer can interpret this scene any which way they'd like. Are they an interracial or gay couple? An older gentleman with a younger woman? And which one of these IS the "odd couple", anyway? You decide!

I've been busy working on a few projects this summer, and haven't been updating my blog as often as I'd like to! But here's a recent addition to my gallery, titled "Gossip Queen".

I've been wanting to paint Raspberries for a long time, and wanted to paint it in a similar style as my "cherries" painting from a few months ago. I just loved the bright, juicy reds against a stark white background.

So outside I went to take some reference photos, and settled on this arrangement. The way the berries were placed, it looked as if the one on the right was whispering in the left one's ear. And the left one was making an "OMG" face - LOVED that! So that's where the title comes from - "Gossip Queen" :)

SOLD - "The Cherry Gang" - 16 x 8"

Here's my latest painting, "The Cherry Gang". I really loved painting this one. My goal for this painting was not to do it quickly, but rather try and focus on each brushstroke, and why it needed to be there. All too often, I get wrapped up in the tiny details. This time, I stood back and squinted, thinking before I applied paint to the canvas. I wanted it to remain fresh and loose. I was very happy with the final result! :)

This Original oil painting was sold during a recent Art Show.

Sunlit Apples - 12 x 6"

I don't know what it is about apples, but I love painting them. I've immortalized them in various paintings, and this one is one of my favorites. I love how the sunlight was shining on them, and also the contrast of the green apples against the pink background.

Apple Wedge - 6 x 8"

Still Life painting is by far my favorite... I love being able to place whatever I want in front of me, without having a model fidgeting or outdoor light constantly changing as I'm painting. I also, for whatever reason, tend to lean towards food... some people say my paintings are making them hungry whenever they're around them!

I particularly love painting apples... maybe it's their easy-to-work-with shape, but I like seeing the color variety within an apple. And this one is no exception. I had a nice, juicy apple in hand, and as I was cutting it in wedges, I thought "Hey, this is a pretty nice composition!". So I took it up to my studio, and the result is what you see here.

SOLD - Green Apple - 2.5 x 3.5" (mini)

I've painted apples before, and I'm particularly fond of my "Sunlit Grannies" watercolor painting from a few years ago (which recently sold, thank you very much!). After getting these cute little blank canvases, I wanted to try a different take on those apples.

Here, I focused the attention more on the stem, and strong complementary colors of the green apple, and pink background. I really like this one, and it's even nicer when it's sitting on the little mini-easel I bought for it :)

While at the art store one day, I came across the most adorable blank canvases I've ever seen! They came in packages of 5, and each one was about the size of a business card. They also sold mini easels, if you wanted them... of course I wanted them!

So I splurged (yes, that was intended to be sarcastic...) on a few packages. I finally took some of them out and tried my hand at painting on these really, really small canvases.

Here's the first - a close-up of an orange cut in half. People who know my work, know that I love painting fruit (particularly erotic-looking fruit, which this one isn't... although I'm sure someone will find something erotic about it... anyone?
